Reception focus 29.2.16

This week in Reception we are discussing Mothers Day and making something special for our mummy. Let's hope the children keep it a secret!

In phonics we are learning the digraphs ee, igh and oa and placing these into words and sentences.

In maths, we are focussing on weight and comparing two weights using the language heavier and lighter.




                            

Reception Focus 22.2.16

This week in Reception we are learning about the story The Gingerbread Man. We will be reading the story and joining in with the repeated phrases and also painting pictures, making spicy potions and bridges for the Gingerbread Man to travel over.

In phonics we are learning the digraphs th, ng and ai and placing these in words and sentences.

In Maths, we will be learning our number bonds to 10 and writing our own addition sentences. 

                                   

Nursery Focus W/C 22/02

This week in Nursery, we are reading 'Goldilocks and The Three Bears'. The children will be retelling the story through role play and will be encouraged to join in with the repeated refrains in the story.


The children will be painting bears at the creative table, using positional language in maths and will be learning facts about different types of bears.

Chinese New Year in Early Years

Early Years had a wonderful time celebrating Chinese New Year. The children came dressed in red clothes to signify good luck and learnt all about Chinese culture by taking part in lots of themed activities. All children enjoyed tasting a Chinese stir fry with our Reception pupils chopping and cooking their own food. An energetic dragon dance took place in the hall where children played instruments, waved streamers and danced to Chinese music. Reception pupils wrote their initial letter in Chinese ideograms and made lanterns while Nursery children were creative with red and gold Play Doh. Gong Hei Fat Choy everyone!

Troll pictures using the Ipads

In Reception, we have been learning about the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The children really enjoyed using their imagination to discuss and think about what the troll looks like, so we used the Ipads to draw a picture of it using the program Drawpad. Some of the children's work is now proudly on display in school.

Nursery Focus W/C 08/02

This week in Nursery, we are learning about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated. On Monday, the children will be wearing red, trying Chinese food and taking part in a dragon dance.


On Tuesday, the children will be discussing pancake day and will have the opportunity to make their own pancakes.


We will also be exploring colour mixing and continuing to look at how colours can be changed.

Reception focus 8.2.16

This week in Reception, we will be learning about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated around the World. On Monday the children will be dressing in red, trying Chinese food and taking part in a dragon dance.

On Wednesday, we will be learning about Shrove Tuesday and how it is celebrated in the Christian religion. We will be baking our own pancakes and trying a range of toppings. The children will have the opportunity to write a recipe and list of ingredients.

On Friday we will be thinking about who is special in our lives and why we love them, linked to Valentines Day.

In Maths, we will be making repeating patterns and in Phonics we will be learning the digraphs qu, ch and sh.

Nursery Focus W/C 01/02

This week we are continuing with our 'Three Little Pigs' theme.


The children will be having lots of fun retelling the story through acting it out. They will be encouraged to use the repeated refrains within the story.


Our maths focus this week is too continue exploring shape. The children will be constructing their own pictures by choosing appropriate shapes for tasks.


The children will be exploring colour mixing and how colours can be changed. They will be investigating what colours they can make.


In addition, the children will be making rainbow cakes.

Reception Focus 1.2.16

This week in Reception, the children will be continuing to learn about The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

In Literacy, the children will be sequencing pictures from the story and writing sentences about it using their phonic knowledge.

In Maths, they will be comparing lengths and ordering items by size using the vocabulary longest and shortest.

The children will also be using the iPads to create their own pictures of the troll using the program Drawpad.
